Watch Out...they are fooling us again!
Here is the dilemma of greenhouse gases.
Carbon Dioxide CO2 is pretty weak at trapping heat into the atmosphere. So why are we so worried about CO2? The answer is the sheer volume of the stuff. Burning fossil fuel releases CO2 and the amount of fuel we burn leave 81.2% of the atmosphere filled with CO2. So because of the volume of it we put into the atmosphere, we are in effect trapping heat.
The heat is melting the polar caps. There are massive amount of ice being dumped into our oceans. As this extremely cold water evaporates into the atmosphere, a normal weather phenomenon, more moisture and colder temperatures are occurring. Folks have a hard time realizing that the colder weather we are experiencing and the greater snow fall, rain and floods are indirectly associated with the ‘ice cold’ oceans. Where folks fail to connect the dots is that when the ice is gone and that is expected within a few years in many areas, there will be neither more ice cold oceans nor cold weather…only the heat will follow. Global Warming is preceded by unusually cold, moist weather.
So some people advocate using ‘natural gas’ as a clean energy source. This is misleading. It is true burning natural gas; a fossil fuel emits 30% less carbon dioxide than oil and 45% less than burning dirty coal. However, what folks don’t realize is that ‘Natural Gas’ IS Methane. Methane is a potent greenhouse gas. In fact it can trap heat 21 times greater than CO2. Here is the really scary part…burning natural gas (methane) currently accounts for only 1.1% of greenhouse gas being emitted a small figure equals 8.5% of the global Greenhouse Gas! Why ever in the world would we want to burn more of something that is 21 times worse than what we are burning now? Natural gas is not the answer to our problems….just like drilling in our ocean floor has proven catastrophic. We can not rely on big business or politicians to protect us from ourselves.
Choose a renewable energy source that offers 100% wind power. Heat your water with solar panels, drive slower, never idle you vehicle. Use less fuel. Stop sending checks every month to businesses that are destroying our planet.
